SUPERINTENDENT OF
GRIFFIN TECHNOLOGY ACADEMIES

MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
Dear Students, Families, and Community Members,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Griffin Technology Academies (GTA), a network of four grade 6-12 public charter schools that are dedicated to preparing each of our students for four-year colleges and fulfilling careers. Our four college and career preparatory public schools were started in 1999 with the launching of Mare Island Technology Academy Middle School. Since then, we have been expanding our schools and our student body, and we now have two high schools and two middle schools. Our four schools, all located in north Vallejo, are: Mare Island Technology Academy Middle School, MIT Academy High School, Griffin Academy Middle School and Griffin Academy High School.
These schools serve students from across Vallejo and beyond - last year we added an innovative new Independent Learning Program called GTAi to each of our schools, so that students from other cities and counties can also enjoy our fresh and relevant programs.
Those students join our site-based students to engage with our wide range of engaging academic programming, from technology and digital arts to math, science and English. And just as we have been doing for the past 25 years, we are creating and implementing new innovative courses for the next school year.
To fulfill our college preparatory mission, GTA provides:
- Annual trips to regional colleges and universities
- A school-wide AVID program to enhance college readiness skills
- Individualized counseling and support for students and families navigating the college application and financial aid process.
- Individualized wellness and mental health counseling and support for students.
We also have a thriving and competitive athletics program, one that just got a new centerpiece. The GTA gym opened in October 2025 and has become a true community hub, in addition to its primary role as an athletic venue for our students.
This year, we have added more local community groups and businesses to our list of partners for our Work Based Learning program. All our students are required to participate in our Work Based Learning program; it is important for us to instill a sense of community in our students, as well as academic success. Our work-based learning team is hard at work creating new opportunities for our students, and we welcome community partners to contact us with ideas.
At GTA, we recognize that education is not one-size-fits-all. We take pride in meeting our students where they are academically, socially, and emotionally. Our committed staff provide personalized attention through targeted academic and behavioral interventions, ensuring each student receives the support they need to thrive.
So on behalf of our inspiring and gifted teachers, coaches, counselors, and all our hardworking staff members, I welcome you to take a look at our schools.
If you want to pay a visit, or are considering enrolling your student at one of our schools, please email our Director of Family and Community Engagement Ms. Mildred Gains (mgains@gtaschools.org) for more information or to schedule a personal tour.
Warm regards,
Nick Driver
