Dear Students, Families and Staff,
Last week was a short but packed fourth week of school, and for seniors it was especially busy on Friday. Griffin Seniors spent the night of Senior Lock In at the GTA gymnasium, while MIT Seniors spent the night very much off campus celebrating Senior Sunrise.
School Climate Survey for Parents
GTA really wants to hear how students, parents and staff think we are doing as an organization. As most of you know, we survey parents, students and staff members every year to gauge how we are doing, and how we can improve.
After strong feedback about the length of the survey, this year we have shortened the student survey. The student survey will be given by teachers during advisory on both campuses. The staff surveys will be given during Monday professional development time, either tomorrow or in one of the upcoming Monday staff meetings.

Board Meeting Monday
On Monday, GTA will be holding another board meeting to redo the action items that were voted on without a full quorum last week. It will not be a full board meeting, will mostly focus on the action items. The Board will vote to add two new members, both of them GTA parents. The Board will also vote on a revised budget for this school year - the budget approved in June lacked important details, such as close-to-final enrollment figures, which we now have. Finally, the board will vote to approve several new positions to be funded by the Community Schools grant, which we recently found out we are eligible for.

Charter Renewal Coming for MIT Academy High, Griffin Academy Middle
Two other important agenda items on Monday’s agenda include two recommendations to submit five-year renewal petitions to Vallejo City Unified School District, one each for Griffin Academy Middle School and MIT Academy High School. Charter schools are required to submit for a renewal of their contract to operate every two, five or seven years. Our two schools and their students’ test scores have earned them the right to a five year renewal.
Once the board approves the two submittals, we will formally submit them to the District. That will start a 90-day timeline, including two public hearings and a VCUSD staff report, and the timeline concludes with a renewed contract for each school just before the winter holidays. We will be asking many of you to come out and support your schools’ renewals along the way, so thank you in advance!

And MIT High Boys Soccer lost to Oakland’s AIMS High 3-0
On Wednesday, MIT High Girls Volleyball beat Richmond’s John Henry High 3-1
On Thursday, Griffin High Boys Soccer lost to Oakland’s Lodestar High 9-0
On Friday, Griffin High Girls Volleyball lost to Vallejo’s Jesse Bethel JV 2-1
And MIT High Girls Volleyball lost to Jesse Bethel Varsity 3-0
Vallejo Waterfront Fest
Sadly, there was no Dock of the Bay Festival this year. But in less than three weeks, on October 3rd, the annual Vallejo Waterfront Fest will take place again on the waterfront green. Many of the crowd-pleasing events, such as the Color Run, the Splash Chair, and of course the live music, will be returning. Estimados estudiantes, familias y personal:
La semana pasada fue corta pero intensa, la cuarta semana de clases, y para los estudiantes de último año fue especialmente ajetreada el viernes. Los estudiantes de último año de Griffin pasaron la noche de la fiesta nocturna en el gimnasio de GTA, mientras que los de MIT celebraron el amanecer fuera del campus.
Encuesta sobre el clima escolar para padres
GTA realmente quiere saber qué opinan los estudiantes, padres y personal sobre nuestro desempeño como organización. Como la mayoría de ustedes saben, realizamos encuestas anuales a padres, estudiantes y personal para evaluar nuestro desempeño y cómo podemos mejorar.
Tras recibir numerosos comentarios sobre la extensión de la encuesta, este año la hemos acortado. Los profesores la administrarán durante las tutorías en ambos campus. Reunión de la junta directiva el lunes
El lunes, GTA celebrará otra reunión de la junta directiva para revisar los puntos del orden del día que se votaron sin el quórum completo la semana pasada. No será una reunión plenaria, sino que se centrará principalmente en los puntos del orden del día. La junta votará para incorporar a dos nuevos miembros, ambos padres de alumnos de GTA. También votará sobre un presupuesto revisado para este año escolar; el presupuesto aprobado en junio carecía de detalles importantes, como las cifras de matriculación casi definitivas, que ahora tenemos. Finalmente, la junta votará para aprobar varios puestos nuevos que se financiarán con la subvención de Escuelas Comunitarias, para la cual recientemente descubrimos que somos elegibles.

Se prevé la renovación de los estatutos de MIT Academy High y Griffin Academy Middle.
Otros dos puntos importantes en la agenda del lunes incluyen dos recomendaciones para presentar solicitudes de renovación por cinco años al Distrito Escolar Unificado de la Ciudad de Vallejo, una para la Escuela Intermedia Griffin Academy y otra para la Preparatoria MIT Academy. Las escuelas autónomas deben solicitar la renovación de su contrato de funcionamiento cada dos, cinco o siete años. Nuestras dos escuelas y los resultados de las pruebas de sus estudiantes les han valido el derecho a una renovación por cinco años.
Una vez que la junta apruebe las dos propuestas, las presentaremos formalmente al Distrito. Esto dará inicio a un plazo de 90 días, que incluye dos audiencias públicas y un informe del personal del VCUSD. El plazo concluirá con la renovación del contrato de cada escuela justo antes de las vacaciones de invierno. El martes, el equipo de fútbol masculino de Griffin High perdió ante Latitude High de Oakland por 6-0.
Y el equipo de fútbol masculino de MIT High perdió ante AIMS High de Oakland por 3-0.
El miércoles, el equipo femenino de voleibol de MIT High venció a John Henry High de Richmond por 3-1.
El jueves, el equipo de fútbol masculino de Griffin High perdió ante Lodestar High de Oakland por 9-0.
El viernes, el equipo femenino de voleibol de Griffin High perdió ante el equipo juvenil Jesse Bethel de Vallejo por 2-1.
Y el equipo femenino de voleibol de MIT High perdió ante el equipo universitario de Jesse Bethel por 3-0.
Festival de la Ribera de Vallejo
Lamentablemente, este año no hubo Festival Dock of the Bay. Pero en menos de tres semanas, el 3 de octubre, se celebrará nuevamente el Festival anual de la Ribera de Vallejo en la zona verde del paseo marítimo. Regresarán muchos de los eventos más populares, como la Carrera de Colores, la Silla de Salpicaduras y, por supuesto, la música en vivo. GTA, como siempre, tendrá un stand en el evento, y nuestros estudiantes volverán a colaborar como voluntarios.
