Superintendent Update March 1st
Dear Students, Families and Staff,
The end of February and its cold weather came quickly and none too soon! The school year is flying by, and we are already in March. And with the beginning of March comes spring weather…while we will still see a few cold days, warmer temperatures and dryer days are upon us. The improved weather means our students will be playing outside more during lunch and breaks, a welcome sign that spring is here.
Community Forum with Solano County Supervisor, City Vice-Mayor
This Thursday evening, the GTA gymnasium will serve as a community engagement hub. The March 5th community forum will start at 6:30 and be led by Solano County Supervisor Cassandra James and Vallejo Vice Mayor Matulac, both of whom represent our part of Vallejo. The event is intended to provide Vallejo residents with important city and county updates, offer opportunities for community dialogue, and strengthen relationships between local government and community stakeholders. The GTA community is welcome to attend, as is the general public.
“AI Water Guardians” - Federal Watershed Grant Application
GTA is leading a multi-school application for a federal grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Entitled “AI Water Guardians: Student Citizen Science for Watershed Stewardship”, the grant would benefit all interested GTA middle and high school students, as well as those from 10 other local charter schools. If we win the grant, our students would get AI training in order to better understand pollution in our local wastewater systems. A large component of the grant is devoted to field trips to our nearby San Pablo Bay and Carquinez Straits waters, so that our teachers can deliver more hands-on lessons to our students. We hope to hear back from the federal government by the end of the month that our application is successful.

GTA Special Board Meeting Monday
We have just called a special meeting for tomorrow, Monday, in order to open our all-important collective bargaining with Griffin Education Association. A public hearing for the GEA proposal, and the approval of the GTA proposal, are both required by state law before we can officially begin bargaining. Once the board approves the items, GTA administration will be able to sit down with GEA to discuss our bargaining agreement for the next three years.
Here is the link to the board meeting agenda, which is virtual only.

Community Events
GTA continues to expand opportunities for student engagement, leadership development, and community partnership through a variety of partnerships and hosted events. These efforts align with our commitment to supporting the whole student, strengthening family connections, and serving as a community hub.
