GTA Releases Chief Accountability Officer’s Report Demonstrating Compliance
VALLEJO, CA – Griffin Technology Academies (GTA) is pleased to announce the release of its highly anticipated Chief Accountability Officer Report to its chartering authority, Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD). The final report addresses GTA’s success in accomplishing all 19 compliance conditions agreed upon in last year’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by GTA and VCUSD.
“This comprehensive document serves as a testament to GTA's unwavering dedication to transparency, accountability, and continuous operational improvement,” said GTA Superintendent Nick Driver. “The CAO report also showcases our school's commitment to academic excellence, student development, and community engagement, highlighting its continued efforts to provide a nurturing, conducive, and safe learning environment for all students.”
To assess the condition related to its finances, GTA contracted with Total School Solutions (TSS), an independent fiscal and operational assessment firm. TSS reviewed the school’s progress in addressing improvement recommendations made by the Fiscal Crisis and Management Team (FCMAT) in April 2022 – a major catalyst for the MOU agreement. A copy of the TSS report on how GTA met its financial condition was provided to VCUSD.
According to the TSS final assessment: “GTA made significant progress in addressing the concerns brought forth by the FCMAT report and has demonstrated an understanding that the work started this year to make improvements to the business services department must continue in the future. The work to provide strong fiscal management is ongoing, as it should be with any charter or district business service division.”
“The release of the report on our financial condition, as well as the confirmation of our completion of all 19 conditions, gives us an opportunity to celebrate,” said Superintendent Driver. “I’m particularly proud of our Board, our former Chief Accountability Officer Brent Zionic (now Chief Operating Officer) and our entire administrative team for their tireless efforts to demonstrate GTA’s 100% commitment to sound fiscal management and internal controls as well as enhancing educational outcomes and equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful future.”
Now, GTA looks forward to working closely with VCUSD Superintendent William Spalding and his staff and Board to bring the MOU process begun last year to its formal conclusion, likely at a board meeting in August.
